Hello and Welcome to Vic's Aquarium and Pet Shop. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| When I was a little boy my Dad (Vic) started raising tropical fish in a spare room at our home. Dad had a real knack for taking care of animals and fish. There was some kind of rapport between him and animals. He had a kindness and gentleness around animals and an understanding of their needs. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| There was four of us back
then, Dad, Mom, My sister and I, and a brother was on the
way. We started running out of room in the little
bungalow as Dad's little spare room hobby turned into a
part time business that looked promising. Mom and Dad
made the decision to move to a bigger house. This new house had two rooms that worked well for the fish and a store area. And there was a basement where we could raise birds. Dad started purchasing good breeding stock Budgies (Parakeets) and soon there was a bunch of cages with nesting boxes each with breeding Budgies in them. I remember a whole wall covered with award ribbons from shows the breeding birds had won before he purchased them. |

| A few years later they enclosed the front porch and moved more stock in there. Of course we made two attempts at moving the shop to retail space in the downtown section of Winchester, Va. The locations were sucessful but logistically difficult as Dad continured to work a day job and Mom had four kids to tend to. The business really wouldn't support the staff needed to allow mom time to stay home with us kids. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
